Does living within 1km guarantee a place in the school?

No. Living within 1km gives you the highest distance priority, but if there are more 1km applicants than vacancies, a ballot is still held among them.

Distance priority decides the order in which groups are considered, not a guaranteed place. For very popular schools, demand from Singapore Citizens within 1km can exceed the available vacancies, so a computerised ballot is held within that band.

Checking a school’s past ballot history is the best way to gauge your real chances — if the within-1km group has balloted before, proximity alone may not be enough.
