You need to complete at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school, and you must have signed up as a volunteer before 1 July of the year before your child registers.
Because the hours must be completed within a set window, most parents begin volunteering at least a year ahead of registration. Schools set their own volunteer schemes and may have limited slots.
Completing 40 hours makes you eligible for Phase 2B but does not guarantee a place — Phase 2B is balloted if oversubscribed.
